International Women’s Day 2019

“And as for my girl, I’ll raise her to think she breathes fire.”

As any parent knows, when you have a child you get a shit ton of “advice” and then everyone judges you against their own protocols to see how you stack up. I feel like there’s always a message nowadays of “humble and kind.” That’s nice but I only agree with half of it. You can be kind but you don’t have to be humble. You don’t have to raise kids to be afraid of shining and prevailing. You don’t have to teach them to not be proud of themselves because it might hurt someone else’s feelings. I think it’s our jobs as parents, especially of girls, to tell them daily that they’re absolutely perfect just the way they are, because no one else is going to do it. They only will know what you teach them. They’ll only believe what you teach them.

The best thing we, as women, can do for the future OF women, is raise our girls to be strong, proud, and fierce. That message starts at birth. This one will always know how we feel about her and she’ll hopefully never be afraid to shine. Estelle does mean “a star” after all. 🌟

Happy International Women’s Day 2019!
